Reception Class

The Early Years curriculum is continued in Reception but supplemented with the additional subject demands of the Primary School. They undertake a full range of activities which help them develop their understanding, knowledge, skills and attitudes which are essential, not only for the next phase of education, but also for a well balanced life.

Our aim is to enable the children to become confident and enthusiastic learners who are able to develop skills, attitudes and understanding appropriate to their stage of development, whilst preparing them for Key Stage 1.

Welcome to Reception Class – the Dragonflies …

Our Class Teacher and Tachning Assistant both passionate about teaching and the difference we can make, each and every day. We encourage all children to be independent learners as soon as they start in school. It is therefore important that children are given the best opportunities at home to support them with this independence. Your child’s happiness and well being is of the highest importance to us. Our class is a happy, enthusiastic place for all children to grow, develop and continue to learn in our quest for life long learning. In short, there is a buzz about learning and there is evidence everywhere, from the moment you walk in the door…

The Areas of Learning and Development

There are seven areas of learning and development that must shape educational programmes in the Early Years setting. All these areas are important and interconnected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These three areas, the prime areas, are: Communication and language; Physical development; Personal, social and emotional development

Providers must also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are: Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the world; Expressive arts and design.
